Narconon Helps KidsDrug addiction in this country has gotten to the point where it is almost at epidemic proportions. About fifty percent of all Americans at any given moment have loved one or know of someone who is struggling with some type of substance abuse addiction problem. There is said to be a war on drugs, but if so, the good guys don’t seem to winning right now. Drug addiction usually rears it’s ugly head when a person is in their teens to early twenties. This is not to say that there has never been a person who became addicted to some type of mind altering substance when they were in their forties. The average age for someone to start experimenting with drugs or alcohol, if they are going to is usually around twelve and half years old or older.

The people, who become addicted to drugs, usually do so because they do not have the abilities that are needed to succeed in life on their own. They often have many problems and because they do not have the proper tools to deal with these problems, they often feel upset and bad about themselves and their situation. When they use drugs, they experience a temporary relief from their negative emotions. The person will often find, however, when they come off of the drugs the relief that they experienced while high, is completely gone and often they feel much worse than they did before. This is where addiction is often born. The person becomes desperate to feel that relief again and they often get to the point where they are almost willing to do anything to get it. This is when a person becomes a thief, or a someone who mugs other people; someone who commits crimes that are related to drug addiction.

In addition to feeling a need for relief from the person’s negative emotions, the drugs often start to play a very important part in the person’s brain. Most drugs mimic the action of the nuero-balance, or the center in the brain that regulates reward chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins. Most drugs work in the same manner as these other chemicals that the body naturally makes and releases when a person does something good for themselves such as eat a big meal. Because these chemicals are released during survival reward moments and the drugs act in a way that is similar to these chemicals, a person can actually get to the point where at a very basic level, they feel like they need drugs to survive. When a person is an addict and is at the point where they need another fix, it can almost feel to them the same way it does to someone else who is hungry but has no way to find food. This may seem like a drastic comparison to most, but an addict who cannot get drugs and is in the throes of their addiction, actually feels this kind of desperation. What would a normal person do to get food if it was unavailable? The answer: things that they usually would never do unless they got hungry and desperate enough.

At this point in a person’s addiction, they are no longer looking to get high to enjoy themselves. They are using drugs because on some basic level, they really feel like they might die if

they do not. Logically they know that this is not true; they know that the healthy thing to do would be to go to rehab and get clean. But on a more instinctual level the person is using drugs to survive.

Narconon Treatment Helps on Many Levels

The Narconon program is one of the most effective proven treatment centers in the world with a success rate of seventy-six percent. Narconon does not approach addiction as a disease and mark the person suffering from it for life. Narconon approaches addiction as a disability and combats it through a series of self-cognitive and life skills building courses. But when a person first gets to Narconon, they handle the physical aspect of their addiction.

When a person uses heavy amounts of drugs over a long period of time, some of the metabolites that are created when the drug is broken down in the person’s system, often become stored in the person’s fatty tissue. These metabolites can cause the person severe mental and physical cravings and also change the way that the person thinks and feels. It is almost like the person is walking around in a drug-induced fog. The Narconon program’s phase one is a regimen of certain vitamins and minerals combined with exercise and sweating in a dry heat sauna and helps the person rid their body of these stored metabolites so they feel a resurgence of their well-being and clarity of mind. The person then goes on to deal with their social and emotional issues and learns the tools that they need to be successful in life without resorting to drugs or alcohol to cope emotionally or otherwise. The goal of Narconon is to actually rehabilitate a person’s ability to survive without drugs.

In our society, people who are addicts are usually scorned and arrested. It has been proven that this method of handling addiction has not been successful. When person goes into jail for drug related charges, they usually go right back to doing drugs when they get out. Narconon drug rehab is not suggesting drug decriminalization, but it would be good for addicts to be sentenced to rehab as a part of their sentence. A person who is an addict is not really in their right mind. They often do things while they are on drugs that they would never do while they when sober. Drug education and drug rehabilitation are much more successful at stopping addiction than a jail sentence.
