South Carolina is considering linking their prescription drug database to other surrounding states that already have it in place.  The purpose of this linking is so that pharmacies, Dr’s, hospitals and others can monitor prescription drug abuse across state lines just not in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Reporting and Identification Prescription Tracking System, or SCRIPTS, went into effect Feb. 1, 2008 for doctors, veterinarians and pharmacies. The database tracks only schedule II, III and IV drugs like OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin and Valium.

Prescription drug abuse is a huge problem all over the United States. Steps like this makes it harder for people who are addicted to get their hands on them.

Many people that start taking these prescription drugs end up in drug addiction treatment centers for help with their addiction.
