Drug Czar

Drug Czar

The drug czar that is there to help people get educated and get drug-free admits that he is failing in his position to achieve these goals.

Earlier this year the White House Office of Drug Control Policy, which is headed by Mr. Kerlikowske, released it’s operating budget for the coming year. Although there is a small shift towards rehabilitation programs, it is basically the same old thing with most monies going to law enforcement as usual. The budget’s stated goal for the year is a 15% decrease in teenage drug use. Since the new data show a 9% increase in drug use across the board that must mean teenage drug use is also up 9%. Hard to see how the Drug Czar can be successful when he must now reduce teenage drug use by 24%. With no change in the way we handle the problems of drug abuse, there is little chance of achieving this or any goal no matter what the numbers are.

Drug addiction is not something that we can stop fighting because in some states we are hitting a brick wall. We have to continue fighting this ugly addiction and with drug treatment many people will achieve sobriety and live healthier and happier drug-free lives.
