The Narconon Program Assists in Post-Acute Withdrawal

Narconon Success D continued her wean down process from heroin. Her father brought her to the family doctor as well to see if there was anything else he might suggest. The doctor recommended methadone to help in the withdrawal process. D spoke with the gentleman from Narconon and he said that taking methadone would be a bad idea for her. He explained that it had a half-life and the withdrawal from methadone was actually more severe than from heroin. She did take a few teaspoons worth of methadone but hesitated in taking the prescribed amount for fear of the outcome later.  She did this for two days and then she arrived to Narconon.

Narconon Orientation

Upon arriving she went to the drug free Orientation area.   She was given nutrients to help rebuild her body from deficiencies that are developed through drug abuse. These deficiencies make the withdrawal process that much more uncomfortable. She also received Narconon processes which are called “assists” which are natural ways to help a drug addict get into good communication with their body, while at the same time, extrovert from the discomfort. This was very comforting and helped calm her nerves which were, as is not uncommon, quite frayed and added to her physical discomfort.     She also took plenty of walks and received lots of fresh healthy air which also helped ease the discomfort and helped her to get her mind off of what she was going through.

After a few days she completed her orientation and post-acute withdrawal support.  She began the actual Narconon program steps.  D did a few light days of therapeutic communication exercises. These are required to get the individual focuses enough to successfully participate in  the Narconon New Life Detoxification Program. After completing these exercises she began the detox program.

Narconon New Life Detoxification Program

The purpose of the Narconon New Life Detoxification Program is to rid the drug addict of the  drug residues in the body.  Every time a person uses drugs, a broken down form of the drug, or metabolite gets stored in their fatty tissues. These drug metabolites will stayed lodged in the fatty tissues for up to seven to ten years after the person quits using.  People have described these metabolites as creating a brain fog, lethargy, lack of luster in attitude toward life, depression, and worst of all cravings. Every time the addict burns their fatty tissue due to either stress or exercise a bit of the drug has the potential for being released back into their blood stream . This is one of the reasons that many people have such a hard time getting off of drugs for good. How the Narconon New Life Detoxification Program work to break this vicious cycle is as follows:
The individual eats a good breakfast upon waking up.  After breakfast they take a specific regimen of nutrients to replace ones lost due to heavy drug use. Included in these vitamins is a B vitamin called niacin. Niacin helps to detoxify the blood. After taking the vitamins the person does light aerobic exercise to start the breaking down the fatty tissue and get the circulation going.  After 20 to 30 minutes of exercise, the person gets into a dry heat sauna, which is considered low-heat.  Good oils are also taken to help the body break down the bad fat.  The body seems to prefer the good oil to the bad fat and will let go of bad fat, if there is good oil available.   As they sweat the clients enough water to replace the fluids that they are losing. Sweating is one of the ways that the body has to rid itself of toxins. The exact regimen of nutrition, exercise and sauna time is continued (under medical supervision) for about three weeks.  Afterwards most clients report that they feel a marked resurgence of well-being and greatly reduced or no physical cravings for drugs. For many, with the drugs out of the system, the memory of their effects is also gone.

Narconon Phase II and Life Skills

After D finished the sauna program she began phase two. Phase two deals with the mental and emotional aspects of addiction. It works on specific phenomenon that happens to all addicts and gives tools for the future to be able to handle and prevent such things from recurring. For instance immediately after sauna the person starts to work on controlling their communication and the emotional responses they may have to certain communications that would cause them to use drugs. Drug addicts often have a very hard time dealing with their emotions and use drugs to numb themselves and help themselves escape their feelings. They practice self-control which can help them get control over their emotions.

After learning to deal with their emotions they then do exercises and therapy to bring their mind back into the present. Often drug addicts can have bits of their minds stuck on past events. This helps them to be able to fully concentrate on the present so they can make the most of it.

Narconon Deals With the Ups and Downs of Life

After this they learn about how to distinguish between healthy personalities and unhealthy ones. They learn to discern between the two so that they are better able to pick their friends for the future and also to help them decide which of their present friends they should probable disassociate with. They also learn how to deal with negative personalities in a self-protective, non-threatening manner.
Learning about other personalities is followed by the individual facing themselves and what they have done to others and O happily participated in this phase of the program.  At this point in the program, they are strong enough to do this.  Part of this involves facing their own misdeeds from the past which helps them to rid themselves of the guilt that they associate with these memories. It is similar to the inventory that one does in twelve step programs.

Narconon Program Helps Repair Damaged Lives

Once the guilt has been dealt with the clients look at how they can start to repair the damage done to their lives and the lives of others from their drug use. They look at all relationships that they have and see what they need to do improve their status. They start with their relationship with self, then move to their family, job, community and onward towards spirituality, depending on what their beliefs are.
Then they re-learn a basic set of ethics and morals that anyone from any religion can adhere to. It is a basic moral reminder course and is very helpful in giving a person guidelines that are easy to follow.
D did all of these courses. Right around the time that she finished the sauna she started to volunteer for the program. She would do chores around the center, help cook dinner and contribute whatever was needed.

Narconon Happy Ending

It took almost exactly four months for her to complete the Narconon Program. After which she continued to work at the center for a few years. She also met her husband working there. He was a fellow staff member at the center. They fell in love, got married and have two children. They eventually moved to the states where D has a very good job as does her husband. They have a wonderful marriage and two beautiful little girls. D has been sober for ten years and is doing wonderfully. She has never relapsed and feels she never will. The honorable, respectful, safe life she was seeking she has found, through the help of Narconon.
