Drunk Driving

Alcohol Addiction

It has happened again a fatal attraction with drinking and driving.  In 2009, there were 1,794 automobile accidents with minors that involved a drunk driver.  “Of the 1,794 minors (age 14 and below) who were killed in motor vehicle crashes, 306 (or almost one in five) occurred in alcohol-related accidents. Of those 306 fatalities, the minors riding with drivers who had a BAC at or above 0.08 percent made up one-half (153) of the fatalities.”

Drinking and driving is not a good idea, especially when one is responsible for more than one’s own life.  Alcohol metabolizes in the blood stream and works along with your height and body weight to determine how intoxicated one is; for many one drink is too many.  The laws of the country clearly states that if one drinks while driving and is caught there will be consequences to pay.   Although statistics show that very few impaired drivers are actually stopped, the laws are intended to stop unnecessary danger to human lifeAdvocacy groups want to send a clear message to those who endanger society with drunk driving, “that if you drink and drive you are highly likely to get caught, and even if it’s only a day or two in jail, people will think twice.   Statistically, when they take the risk enough times, bad things are bound to happen. We need greater enforcement efforts, not more people in our prison population.”

There are 17 million alcoholics in the United States, and everyday accidents where alcohol is involved take the lives of innocent people many of those lives are minors.   Addiction treatment is available through the successful education and rehabilitative services at Narconon of Louisiana.  You or your loved one will be given tools for living a successful life free from the abused and often deadly effects of alcohol.  A holistic approach to drug rehab involves treating the whole person; mind, body and spirit.

Thank you for reminding us about the many dangers of alcohol abuse. Drunk driving is a big problem as anyone who has lost a loved one to someone who has been drinking and driving knows. Many drunk drivers are repeat offenders despite harsher DUI laws. This is the reason treatment for alcoholism is so important. Getting an alcoholic into a program of recovery is not only beneficial for the alcoholic and their loved ones, but also for society as a whole. Getting drunk drivers off the roads is good for everyone.
