Cocaine addiction can be a very serious addiction. There are many ways that people use cocaine. The three main ways are as follows.

  • Snorting cocaine through the nose
  • Smoking cocaine in a free base or crack cocaine form
  • Injecting cocaine via a hypodermic needle

Probably the least addictive way of using cocaine is snorting the cocaine powder through the nose. The reason that this method is less addictive is because it takes longer to be absorbed through the bloodstream and the high that is achieved is longer and steadier and less intense. This is not to say that this method of ingestion is not addictive, it is, it is just a bit less addictive than the other methods.

Crack Cocaine

In the late seventies a surplus of pure cocaine was introduced into America. Before this time, most users would snort cocaine in powder form through their nose. Because of the surplus in the late seventies, there was a lot more pure cocaine available for a cheaper price. Dealers began to lose money. To rectify this problem, dealers began to manufacture crack cocaine. Before crack was invented, some people would smoke cocaine in a free base form. To turn cocaine into a free base form, people would have to use very flammable materials to create it. A chemist at some point came up with a way to turn cocaine into crack in a much safer way using water. When this happened the ability to manufacture smokable cocaine became much easier and safer for dealers to do.

Dealers began to sell crack and noticed that their profits increased. The reason for the increase in income was due to the fact that when smoked, crack created a much more intense rush in the user, but one that would wear off much more quickly. People would then desire more within a few minutes and would be back to the dealer to purchase it. It was also easier to sell small amounts, so people with less money were able to afford to buy it, thus opening up the market for more customers.

Crack Addiction

Crack addiction is one of the most overwhelming addictions that a person can suffer from. When someone uses crack cocaine the rush is instant. The high only last for a few minutes however, so the person will crave more usually within five to ten minute after the first initial dose. Once addicted, the person can get very desperate to get more crack cocaine. The person will sometimes search for more crack on the floor and anywhere else they may think they may have dropped some. The person may pick up any piece of white or yellowish substance that may resemble crack on the floor and put it into their mouth to see if it tastes like crack. The person can also suffer from paranoia and erratic behavior. This is probably usually due to lack a sleep and an insufficient amount of nutrients in their system. Crack is an appetite suppressant and also a stimulant so it causes the user to not sleep and also causes them to not eat. Signs of crack use and addiction are as follows.

  • Increased energy
  • Eye dilation
  • Paranoia
  • Agitation
  • Severe weight loss
  • Decreased appitite
  • Loss of focus on priorities
  • Lack of money
  • Erratic behavior
  • Muscle spasms
  • Tooth grinding

The person may become so desperate and their focus may become so centered on crack that they are willing to do anything to get more. They may sell all of their possessions and may even begin to sell their bodies to get more crack. There have been some instances where a parent was so desperate to get more crack that they have even sold their own children to pay for more.

Injecting Cocaine

Cocaine injection is similar to crack cocaine in the way that it affects the person and the degree of addiction that can result of using cocaine in this way. Both means of ingestion cause the cocaine to be absorbed into the bloodstream almost instantly. The biggest difference is that in an injection user, the person will usually have track marks, or little prick marks where they have stuck themselves with a needle.

Treatment for Cocaine Addiction

No matter what way a person is using cocaine, once addiction is established it is very important for a person to seek help for this problem right away. The longer the person is addicted to cocaine, the harder it will be for the person to get and stay clean. Long term treatment is usually recommended. Narconon rehab centers provide excellent care for those people who are suffering from any type of cocaine addiction. Narconon is a long term treatment that is non-traditional and individualized. Every time a person uses a drug, drug metabolites have the potential of being stored in the fatty tissue. These metabolites have can cause physical cravings in the person for years after the person quit using drugs. Every time the person gets stressed out or exercises or burns fat in any way there is a potential for the drug metabolites to be released back in the blood stream. These metabolites can travel back into the bloodstream and cause a very severe craving. This can cause the person to have a very hard time fighting these cravings, especially when they can happen constantly.

Narconon addresses this aspect of addiction through a regimen of vitamins and nutrition and sweating in a dry heat sauna. The way that this is done encourages the body to release all the stored drug metabolites, as well as other environmental toxins, from the fatty tissues. Most people who have done this have reported a dramatic decrease in cravings as well as increase in the ability to think clearly and make good decisions.

Once the person finishes this, the social and coping aspects of addiction are addressed in the remainder of the Narconon program. The Narconon program is one of the most successful rehabs in the world. Narconon has a seventy-six percent success rate.
