Officials in Shelby Co, TN is seeing an increase of drug trafficking in their county due to what people characterize as the “drug pipeline” that runs from Florida through Michigan to Canada. Interstates within these states including the North-South is I-75 which is heavy with drug traffic.
Shelby Co jails are made up of many criminals that are there because of the use or sale of drugs of some kind. Drug Addiction can also land some of these inmates there because of their violent actions while under the influence.
“The vast majority of the people we have (in jails) have some drug connection, whether in drug trafficking or with drugs involved in another form of criminal behavior,” he said. “So much of the revenue we see in gangs is connected to drugs. There are domestic-abuse issues related to drugs, aggravated assaults. There’s a very strong connection.”
Drug Treatment Center sees a lot of users that are taking multiple drugs and mixing them together. This is very dangerous as many drugs only make another drug have more effect making it deadly.
