Narconon Rehab Centers and Stimulant Abuse

The Narconon Drug Rehab program has been around since 1966 and has been found to be very effective treatment for those individuals who are suffering from an addiction to stimulants. The Narconon program is a non-traditional program, meaning that it is not a twelve step based program. Narconon is also unique in the fact that it is one of the only programs that addresses the physical aspects of addiction in the manner that it does. Most other programs will send those people that need a medical detox to an appropriate facility to help them during this difficult time. Other treatment centers provide medical detox services on sight. Once the person is through the detox portion of their recovery, most treatment centers go on to address addiction from mental and emotional aspects.

The reason that Narconon rehab centers do not do this is because it has been found that most people do not feel physically well when they get off of drugs, even after they are through the physical withdrawal stage. People that are coming off of stimulants are not going to suffer from the same physical symptoms as people who are coming off of other drugs that are more physically addicting, but it is found that their body does not feel as well as it did before they ever use drugs in the first place.

Stimulant Addiction

There are a multitude of reasons why a person starts using stimulants. Not all stimulants affect a person the same way as others. Most stimulants do have a few things in common however. They give the person an increased sense of energy and usually make them feel more focused while decreasing their appetite. There are some people who start using study drugs as children because they are diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and their doctors, parents and teachers feel that the drugs helped them focus on their studies more efficiently. Other people start using these same study drugs as a way to lose weight because they suppress the appetite. There are some people who are given prescriptions for drugs such as Adderall because they suffer from constant fatigue or in some case narcolepsy. These drugs are found to be effective for these people because they are stimulants in nature and will keep someone awake.

There are some people who use ADD/ADHD medication recreationally the same way that some people use cocaine. Some people crush up these pills and snort them and it is found that this practice is very addictive and there are many teens that are addicted to prescriptions of their friend’s medications.

Other stimulants are illegal and can only be bought from a drug dealer. Stimulants like these are cocaine, crack and methamphetamine. Cocaine and crack are very addictive and the initial rush that they give to someone is short lived. The person has to use continuously throughout the day to stay high and it is common for cocaine and crack addicts to spend days at a time using these drugs without cessation. They will often use until their money runs out.

Methamphetamine is similar in some ways to cocaine in the fact that it causes the person to have a sense of euphoria and speeds them up. Methamphetamine effects usually last for a much longer period of time however. Meth is a much stronger drug and person can use a lot less of it and get much higher for a longer period of time. Some people who use stimulants for a long period of time often suffer from mental disturbances because they do not eat or sleep enough. The person can become agitated and paranoid and sometimes will even begin to hallucinate, depending on how many days they do not sleep. In addition, stimulants are very bad for a person’s heart and cause heart attack, strokes and death. The risks associated with stimulant use are very high and many people have died using them.

Stimulant Cessation

However a person gets dependent on stimulants, when they come off they are certain to have certain physical and mental symptoms that can take a while to go away. Depending on what kind of stimulant the person used, they may suffer from paranoia and delusions for a long period of time. Others find that they suffer from anxiety and others from constant fatigue. Many people become dependent on stimulants to get them through their day and find that they have much difficulty in functioning in their day to day activities when they stop using them.

When a person uses stimulants they act as a poison or toxin to the body. The body will attempt to flush these chemicals out of the system as quickly as possible but when a person uses heavily over a long period of time some of these drugs have the potential to become stored in the fatty tissue. When they person stops using them they often find that they are operating in a fog and crave more drugs constantly.

The Narconon program is one of the only programs that has a treatment that has been found to help a person with this aspect of their recovery tremendously. Narconon uses a natural technique that helps the body get rid of all the drugs metabolites and other toxins that have accumulated in a person’s body due to their drug addiction. Many people who have done this portion of the Narconon program said that their body felt much more energetic and healthy once they finished it. Many said that they no longer suffered from physical cravings and their ability to focus and think clearly was greatly improved. They said that their body felt as good as it did when they were children and they were no longer walking around in a drug induced haze.

Once the person has dealt with the physical aspect of their addiction they go on to focus on the emotional and social reasons that they got started using in the first place. They learn the life skills that they need to deal with the ups and downs that one encounters and also the tools that person needs to know to succeed. They will come to terms with the misdeeds that they committed in their past and figure out what they need to do to repair the damage from these misdeeds going forward. They then are able to proceed in the future without the guilt from their past coming back to haunt them. Most people who finish the Narconon program have said that they now have the tools that they need to have a good successful life and they have the ability to take responsibility for themselves so that they can make it that way.
