One Mans Tale of Addiction; Robert’s Story Part Five

This is the story of a man we are calling Robert. Robert spent most of his adult life addicted to

heroin and ruined most of his personal relationships because of it. This is the tale of his addiction and how he went to Narconon Rehab and got clean. He was able to repair most of his lost relationships with his family and is doing very well.

Summer Uses Heroin

Roberts’s girlfriend and mother of his child had decided that she wanted to try heroin. She told Robert and he told her that he did not feel comfortable with letting her. She knew he was very possessive of her and told him that she would just have some other guy shoot her up. Robert got very upset about this and decided that he was not going to have some other guy shoot up his girl. He decided that he was going to do it himself.

He helped Summer use heroin and she immediately loved it. She became addicted very quickly and was soon obsessed with using as much as possible. Robert knew that was going to happen and he said that he felt bad about it but he did not want some other guy to be the one to give her drugs, mainly because he was worried she would perform sexual favors to get them.

With Summer addicted to heroin, the care of their son soon fell to the wayside. Robert said that he tried to do as much as he could to make sure that their son was well taken care of, but he does not really feel that he was able to succeed in doing so. Robert said that many times they would take the baby with them to drug dealers and sometimes they would leave him in the car unattended for hours while he was sleeping to cop dope. Summer and Robert used heroin together for four years while they were raising their child before Summer’s family finally intervened. Summers mother offered to take the child and care for him so that he would be provided with a stable home and environment. Robert said that at this point Summer did not really care and almost seemed happy to be relieved of the burden of taking care of her son. Robert said that he really loved his son and that it really hurt him to let Summer’s mom take the boy, but in the end he felt that it was for the best. He said that as the little boy was being picked up by his grandmother he hugged his dad and said “I love you dad and I’m going to really miss you. I am not going to cry, Dad I am a big boy, don’t worry.” Robert said that he hugged his little boy to his chest and told him that if he wanted to cry that it was ok. He told him that even big boys have to cry sometimes when they were sad.

Robert said that this was probably the hardest separation that he had ever had from any of his children. He had taken care of his littlest son since he was born and he said that he felt like his heart was being ripped out when he had to let him go.

Summer Gets Arrested

Not many months after their child was taken by the boy’s grandmother, Summer got arrested for possession of drugs. Shortly there after, Robert was arrested as well. They both stayed locked up for a few months and when they got out they decided that they were going to move to the big city that was two hours from the town where they lived. Robert had drug connections there and decided that he was going to start selling heroin instead of cocaine to support his habit. Summer decided that she was going to get a breast enhancement surgery and become a stripper to make more money. Robert was bringing in a lot of income at the time, but most of it was going right back out again to support the couples drug habit. He said that if he had been in his right mind it really would have bothered him that Summer was planning to become a stripper, but as it was he was just happy that they were going to have another form of income to support their heroin addiction.

Summer Starts Smoking Crack

When Summer started stripping, she met people that were addicted to crack cocaine as well. She tried it and soon was smoking crack on a full time basis as well as shooting heroin. She lost even more weight and became even more unhealthy. Roberts said around this time it got to the point where he would not see her for days at a time and pretty soon he started looking for another place to live.

He decided to get an apartment in the middle of the city where heroin was being dealt on every corner. He said that he took over one corner and because of his connections, no one would dare try to sell dope on his block.

He said he started selling to prostitutes that would work his block and before long he decided he would let some of them live with him. He said he never slept with any of the girls that he let live there, he did it more as a favor to them. He said that he felt really bad for the girls and acted as their protector. He said they would get robbed sometimes and would call him to come handle it. He said that he was not their pimp; he was more like their body guard.

Robert said at this point, he knew Summer had started selling her body as well. He would still see her sometimes and they would get high together. He said that he really regrets doing that because sometimes they would share needles and he said that she gave him Hepatitis C. He said that he never shared needles with anyone else except with her so he knew that that’s where he got it from. Continued in Part Six
